Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is firing back at White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany after she took a swipe at the progressive star.

During a press conference on Monday, McEnany said the White House rejects the idea of defunding police departments. During her comments, McEnany called Ocasio-Cortez a ā€œBiden adviser.ā€

ā€œ@PressSec wouldn’t be the first person to mistake a women of color for having a lower position or title than she does,ā€ Ocasio-Cortez shot back on Twitter. ā€œBut Kayleigh – in case you haven’t picked up a newspaper in two years, I’m a Congresswoman.ā€

ā€œThe @PressSec comment is steeped in a long, hurtful, & horrendous history of stripping women of color of titles and diminishing them to ā€œthe help,ā€ she continued.

Finally, she said, ā€œPerhaps she isn’t aware that what she did is mired in racist history. If that is the case, I look forward to her apology tomorrow.ā€

As some Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, have amplified calls to cut funding to police departments and use the funds for other purposes, conservatives have forcefully rejected that idea.

ā€œThe fact that you have sitting congresswomen wanting to defund the police … it is extraordinary,ā€ McEnany said before she singled out Ocasio Cortez and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.)

She said, ā€œNotably Rashida Tlaib, notably Biden advisor AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezā€ as she listed some Democrats who have supported the push to defund police departments.

McEnany responded to Ocasio-Cortez with a transcript of the press conference. She said, ā€œRead the transcript, Congresswoman.ā€

Trump has repeatedly tried to cast Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden as a far-left candidate. But on Monday, Biden’s campaign rejected the push to defund police departments, as IJR reported.
